The bad part is I'd be willing to pay that kind of money if I knew a game will release as a finished product with no monetization scheme attached to it. You know, like they used to. But this is about making money not creating a better product.

if I'm paying 70 dollars for a game the game better have enough content that I'm playing it for a good 2 years without being exhausted without extra DLCs/microtransaction needed

Games with MTX as a core feature should be free. If I'm paying $70 for a game, I expect everything to be included, no lootbox purchases needed.

well gonna love the price of GTA 6 then because they will probably deem that to be a $100 game so get ready for that price plus the monetization in the online mode with a much shorter story than GTA 5.

I'll tell you what. If games went back to 2003, no micro transactions of ANY type, including the ability to purchase anything from player cards to exp boosts. Then I'd be fucking ecstatic to pay 70.00. otherwise, these morons can stick those cosmetics up their money grubbing asses. After all, I haven't seen a quality AAA game in quite some time. So tell me why they deserve 70.00, hell even 40.00 for a 20.00 product. They don't deserve it.

If you think paying $70 for a lootbox casino simulator of a digital copy of an ANNUAL, RESKINNED, RERELEASED franchise is acceptable regardless of financial status, you're a brainlet and the direct cause of the degradation of the industry.

Please god YongYea stop begginf for government regulators. Thats soo foolish. It could only make things worse. If anything, there's probably some laws that need to be REPEALED not created. Clearly this is the result of IP laws, the fact that these shitty devs and publishers have the rights to "official" sports games, which effectively they're the only ones that can make a realistic basketball game, or soccer game, or football, or wtv. Whatever it is that makes it so that another dev cannot just make a basketball game (except maybe with fictional players and teams? Although even then sports are so cultural I think you could make the case that team names and logos, rules and the likeness of famous athletes are quasi public domain for the purpose of video games) - that's where effort needs to be placed. Getting regulators to step in and micromanage business models and even game mechanics in the industry is only going to advantage the big corporations at the expense of the little guys in the long run, even though superficially it might not seem that way (its how it ends up in every other industry - big business are the ones with lobbyists, lawyers, friends in government, entire staff dedicated to compliance... upstart innovative devs cannot afford this, so as soon as it becomes a "thing" in games, you run the strong risk of totally killing the indie scene, and you bet your ass the fatcats will see the presence of regulators as an opportunity to turn the industry into a cartel, again just as happens in every other market/industry that gets regulated) We need to remove the barrier that stands in the way of other devs and publishers cashing in on the huge demand for sports games and the hatred for 2K and EA - so they can make a "parallel universe" sports game that uses fantasy names and teams but the ruleset that those gamers crave. And if that's somehow illegal or copyright infringement, then thats where you need to push government to change something. Yoy need to take the monopoly away from 2K and EA (and the NBA for that matter) when it comes to sports games, not solidify their monopoly forever by having regulators step in.

I'll start paying $70 for games when they start putting the full experience in games (expansion packs and what not) at no extra price. P.S. They won't.
LunaDeaminac 27 päivää sitten
I’m ready to pay my regional equivalent of $70 if the game: has no or very little other monetisation; has suitable length, depth, playtime to justify the value; is complete upon purchase (not terribly buggy or missing half of its ‘intended content’); is visually appealing (that doesn’t mean incredibly realistic graphics, I usually prefer stylised games, I just don’t want it to be painful); has suitable inclusivity support (colour blind modes, text size adjustment etc.); AND was not made under crunch conditions. Only if all conditions are met am I willing to pay $70 for a single game.

> Consumers are *ready* to pay $70 for games now Really? I don't recall having seen a 14% increase in minimum or overall wages paid to *literally everyone* tho'? Inflation of all expenses doesn't justify upping the cost when folks aren't earning cash that matches said inflation. If we don't start to see payouts that match this drop in monetary worth, we'll end up with a growing gap between the middle-lower and uppermost classes.

I think the most terrifying part is that we all know we have no say of they go through with this and even worse .... When they go through with it things will never go back. Prices in video games will never decrease from the most they can charge you.
Bublee Uukausi sitten
Don't you guys like the future? It's going to be complete fools buying all this and forcing us to regulate stupidity because society has failed at that. Whether it's government or even games the future is dark even apart from companies growing and getting worse ... its worse also because it works
Bublee Uukausi sitten
Remember they will never raise the price for a reasonable reason. They are going to see their already overpriced games losing a bit of money and try to change things to keep their profits while ignoring how much they already make from lootboxes and overpriced season passes. This isn't about you (doubt you needed to hear that one) or inflation its about maximizing profits and seeing only numbers.

Ah yes, especially just coming out of COVID, I'm definitely ready to start paying more for my videogames. Why don't you purchase games like little nightmares 1 and 2. Where you can actually tell the company that made them actually put a lot of love and care into their games. Hell, I was expecting (and willing) to pay $60 for Little Nightmares II. And then I heard the Game was being priced at $30. Which it should have honestly been set at $45 at least for how much work they put into it. All I'm saying is, you can tell the shallow and shady game companies from the good ones that actually do it for the love of it, and not for the profit.

Base price of $60 is already steep for a lot of people; $70 is absurd--the argument about tech, graphics, et cetera is completely misplaced as well as games are making more money than ever, and the consumer is not asking for these things; AAA is pushing it.

Sorry but at this point I don't feel sympathetic to people who play sports games. Companies like EA and 2K wear their unregulated gambling on their sleeves and sports gamers *do not care* . Right now with the economic impacts of the pandemic and people's increased interest in video games as an outlet, video game companies should invest more on making their games as affordable as possible since more people are willing to try them out or have more free time in quarantine to actually play games.
